Balance your lake.

Liming Application

Liming is a vital component of maintaining the health of your pond. It helps to raise pH of your lake - buffering pH swings - and promotes the growth of critical component of the food chain known as a plankton bloom.

In Texas, many lakes tend to be acidic with a pH of 6 or less and also have low alkalinity. At Lochow Ranch we offer water testing which will help to determine the pH, hardness and alkalinity of your lake. By maintaining the desired pH and alkalinity levels, nutrients become more readily available to phytoplankton, resulting in a lake that has an increased production level.

With a proper pH level of between 6.5-9 and an Alkalinity above 15 mg/L, you can be assured that your lake will be fertile and your fish will grow to their maximum potential.

Fertilization Application

For large and healthy fish, your first step should always be pond fertilization. Big fish need lots of food (10 lbs of feed equals 1 lb of growth on a bass). In order to grow all the forage fish needed to produce lunker bass you must start at the beginning of the food chain. The food chain in your pond begins with phytoplankton. These microscopic plants provide the base of the food chain which are eaten by zooplanton which in turn are eaten by the fry in your lake.

With a solid fertilization program, you can typically quadruple the yield of your pond and also shade out any problem weeds. In contrast, improper fertilization causes fish kills and tremendous weed growth.

For best results, we recommend bi-weekly treatments of between 3 to 10 applications in the spring once the water has reached 60 to 65 degrees and should end by early July.

Give us a call today and let us determine your fertilization needs. At Lochow Ranch, our team of experts knows how to ensure the right balance for your lake. And we stand behind our work.

Limestone Buffer System

At Lochow Ranch we also offer a deluxe limestone buffer system. Good for the life of your lake, limestone buffering helps keep excess dirt from entering your pond, stops erosion from destroying your shoreline, and provides you with a clean edge to your lake.
